Extra Large V8 Helikite Winch

This is the largest Helikite winch currently available.

It is designed to operate the 175m3 and 250m3 Desert Star Helikites. These are powerful aerostats generating substantial pulling forces in a high wind, but the V8 motor is fully capable of coping with the strain.

The huge, tall, and narrow drum can accommodate enough flying line to allow the big Helikites to fly over 5000ft with ease.

Large Gasoline Helikite Winch

A powerful gasoline or diesel, direct-drive, motor winch.

Originally designed to operate from US Naval ships.

For Helikites of 64m3 and over.

For land or sea.

Suitable for fibre-optic.

The huge, tall, and narrow drum can accommodate enough flying line to allow the big Helikites to fly over 5000ft with ease.

A large and very powerful wheeled gasoline winch, specially designed by Allsopp Helikites Ltd, suitable for large Helikite operations. Designed to be air-mobile, it is easily towed into position and then rapidly deployed. It has a centrifugal clutch aligned with a forward and reverse gearbox coupled to an in-line reduction gearbox. The variable line speed is up to an unusually fast 100 metres/minute whilst pulling 750kg.

The specially designed smooth-running, tall, narrow, drum is designed to automatically lay the line neatly without the requirement for expensive, complicated, and unreliable level-wind mechanisms. With its large core diameter, the drum is highly suitable for fibre-optic tethers. Optional slip rings can be supplied.

The winch is optimised for maximum speed and power whilst retaining reliability, so it has a very efficient in-line configuration. The powerful clutch allows the drum to freewheel if required for silent and fast Helikite ascent. There is a separate, strong, double-disc brake. Line can be run from the top or bottom of the drum as preferred. There are roller fairleads top and bottom.

The engine is the reliable Honda 22HP OHV four-stroke. There is also a manual emergency winder.

Safety features include: a manual drum locking bar, an emergency stop button, lockable ignition switch, and steel safety cage surrounding the moving parts.

The wheels can be removed and stored on a bracket on the winch when required. The strong powder-coated steel frame protects the winch and creates an easily packaged, fork-lift friendly unit. The winch is weather-proof and is suitable for use on land, vehicles, or at sea.

Gasoline Motor Winches

Small Gasoline Helikite Winch

An excellent, mobile winch using a 4.5HP Honda engine.

Can be operated on the ground, at sea or from a pick-up truck. Removable wheels. Totally stand-alone system. For Helikites up to 34m3. Suitable for fibre-optic.

This strong and handy wheeled gasoline winch, specially designed by Allsopp Helikites Ltd, is suitable for most Helikite operations. Designed to be compact and to fit anywhere, it is easy to man-handle and fast to deploy.

It has a centrifugal clutch aligned with a forward and reverse gearbox onto a 90-degree reduction gearbox. The variable line speed is up to a creditably fast 50 metres/minute. The specially designed smooth-running, tall, narrow, drum is optimised for automatic line-laying and is suitable for fibre-optic tethers.

A unique feature is the variable width of the drum that can be set for different line lengths and thicknesses of cable. The winch has automatic gearbox braking and a separate, foot operated disc brake.

The quiet engine is the reliable and familiar Honda 4.5HP four-stroke.

High Speed 12V Helikite Winch

12V Custom Drum MK2 Helikite Winch

Large drum, custom-made to accommodate long line length. A strong and reliable 12-volt electric winch suitable for Helikite operations. It can operate directly from a 12-volt car battery or other suitable 12-volt supply and can be remotely operated via radio or cable.

Custom-made, extra-large capacity drum for long lengths of flying line.

It has an extra fast line speed of approximately 20 metres/minute to enable fast Helikite deployment. The gearbox position is moved away from the drum, so it does not melt the soft Dyneema flying line and the fairlead is designed to protect soft, thin, Dyneema flying line.

It is weather-proof and suitable for marine use if required.

It has an optional bracket allowing direct attachment to the tow-hitch ball of a vehicle. It has a large, steel base plate suitable for easy anchorage to the ground. This can also be bolted to the flat bed of a truck or any suitable flat surface.

12V Standard MK1 Electric Helikite Winch

A strong and reliable 12-volt electric winch suitable for Helikites from 1m3 up to 40m3.

Also very useful for a large variety of other winching purposes where a strong, reliable, all-weather winch is needed.

It has a relatively fast line speed of approximately 20 metres/minute. The gearbox and fairlead is optimised for the use of Dyneema flying line. It is weather-proof and suitable for marine use if required.

It can take hundreds of feet of line, the exact amount depending upon the thickness of the line chosen. It can operate directly from a 12-volt car battery or other suitable 12-volt supply and can be remotely operated via radio or cable.

It has an optional bracket allowing direct attachment to the tow-hitch ball of a vehicle. It can also be attached by bolting it to the flat bed of a truck or any suitable flat surface or anchored directly onto the ground.

Recommended power supply

One 12V, 100amp/hour battery will give 30 minutes continuous use. Two batteries recommended for extended use.

Made from one-piece T6-6061 aluminium, it is equipped with 5 sealed stainless steel ball bearings. The oversized gears with angled teeth offer maximum power. Neoprene case and rod clamps.

One-piece frames made from high grade T6-6061 aluminium so lightweight and extremely strong.
The reel comes in a choice of 2 different gear settings 4.7-1 and S=High Speed 6-1 retrieve.

The spool is made from forged aluminium for extreme strength with 5 sealed stainless-steel bearing and an extremely powerful brake with sealed drag washers. The side plates, handle knob and drag lever are in forged aluminium. Retrieve is silent – no annoying clicking.
